Good low priced optical drive
When I bought a new laptop PC a year ago, I finally came to terms with the fact that internal optical drives were no longer really a feature of newer models. If I could find one it would be significantly more expensive than a similar model without the drive. The main reason that I had been using an optical drive on my last PC was for backing up my large collection of music CDs and playing the odd DVD. So I figured that my new laptop would be okay without an internal drive and I looked for an external model.Looking at various CD/DVD drives on Amazon revealed that there seemed to be quite a few cheaply priced ones with customer ratings at around 4.5*. Aside from some of the positive reviews (and there are a *lot* of reviews for this model!), the price and the fact that you can fold the USB-A cable underneath the drive for tidy storage were deciding factors for me.I’ve been very happy with my purchase which I use with my laptop running Windows 11.I have found the drive to be very reliable and it can be plugged in to the PC when it is already switched on. It spins up properly when a CD is inserted and is recognised as a drive by the PC. CD ripping software also recognises it and allows ripping at a reasonable speed.Although you can obviously rip CDs using Windows Media Player, I prefer to use FreeRIP but I have found that either works very well. There has been no skipping of CDs or DVDs and no glitches in the files I have ripped. As others have noted, you will need to install separate software (not included) to watch DVDs (you can blame Microsoft for removing DVD playing capabilities from Windows software…) and that has also worked fine for me.So I have found this drive to be perfectly suited to my needs:- low price- reasonably robust- instantly recognised when plugged in- no skipping- cable stows nicely- CDs ripped and DVDs watched successfullyI’m very pleased that I chose Rioddas as my first external drive.

Fast, reliable, well built
I regularly buy CDs and then rip them to FLAC format, but my old CD player was very slow since I migrated to Linux Mint. I bought this CD player to see if there was a difference. I'm glad to say that there is an enormous positive difference.I ripped the same CD using both my old CD player and this Rioddas model, and to ensure it was a fair test, they were both plugged into the same USB port. When I finished the test with one, I swapped the drives and then rebooted the computer to ensure there were no residual incompatible drivers lingering. The old CD player took 15 minutes to rip the whole CD. The Rioddas took 7 minutes, which is a significant difference. There were no errors during the reading process (the software I use reports all errors). The old player managed to get up to 3.5 times nominal read speed, whilst the Rioddas got up to 8.5 times, again, significantly faster. When I get a box-set of CDs, it will no longer be an all-day task to rip them. The drive looks and feels like a quality machine, and the eject works properly through software as well as the button. The simple USB-A connector enables connectivity to almost every computer, and it is light enough to put in a backpack so you can use it down at the local coffee house or library. Not tested:1. DVD reading2. CD and DVD writingWith the above two caveats, I would recommend this drive.

Good Value External CD/DVD Drive – Works with Windows 11, but Cable is Short
I bought this external CD/DVD drive, and it works as described. The model is BT669. It connects to a computer using a USB port and is powered by DC 5V, 1.5A. The device is light, weighing about 400g, and comes in a compact box (17.2cm × 15.2cm × 2.8cm). It supports both 8cm and 12cm discs and works with DVD and CD formats. The reading speed is DVD-ROM 8x and CD-ROM 24x, while the burning speed is DVD 8x and CD 24x.The packaging says it works with Windows 98, XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 10, as well as Mac OS 8.6 and above. I tested it on Windows 11, and it works fine. Some people say that external CD/DVD writers do not work with Windows 11, but this one does.It is easy to use—just plug it into a USB port, and the computer detects it. You can then insert a disc, and it will read or burn as needed. The build quality feels decent, and it is stable when placed on a flat surface. One issue is that the attached USB cable is too short. You either have to let the drive dangle from the port or use an extension cable. This is not a serious problem, but it is slightly annoying. One star off the review because of that. For the price, this is good value. It does what it should, and apart from the short cable, I have had no issues. If you need an external CD/DVD drive, this is a good option.

Does the job required of it.
Bought this along with the Lenovo refurbished computer as the laptop doesn’t have a cd player.

Great product at a good price
I required a cd player as my computer now does not have 1 inbuilt, easy to use and understand how to connect, great product at a good price

Great product, worth the price
Amazing product! It works perfectly, and allows me to play movies (given I use specific software to play or copy the disc to my drive). I'm also able to play ps2 games with an emulator. It isn't too loud, and connects to my laptop with no issues. Overall, it is worth the price and does what is expected

Short usb cable
The usb connection cable is very short, you will probably need a usb extension to be able to lie it on a flat surface 🫤

Works good for what I need it for
As the world still embraces streaming audio after using it for a couple of years I've returned to cds and vinyl so this was purchased as Purely an audio cd player for my laptop. Fairly quiet operation reads
