A Quality Piece From A Quality Brand
I've had my eye on CJRB for a while, hoping they might have some models go on clearance, but no luck. I guess when you make a good product they don't end up in the clearance bin!Their products are striking. That's what draws me to them. Lots of companies make good quality knives at a good value. But they are the same as everything else that's out there. This model is different. It looks great in red, is extremely fine in detail and well put together. The wide blade makes slicing no problem, where a standard knife would struggle. It opens fairly easily, and I noticed a little oil on the joint. Many companies don't even bother to set up the knife for use - they are full, require lubrication, tightening of fasteners and screws. CJRB sends you a knife you can use day one. It's not a big deal to have to do a little pre-field maintenance, but it's a nice touch when you don't have to do so.It looks even better than the picture. I like unusual cutlery, and there are not really any good imitators of these pieces on the market. I'm really impressed with the attention to detail. It didn't come in a fancy box, and frankly I would rather they put the money into the cutlery rather than the box. A nice sheath would have been a good touch for a middle price-point knife, but I will likely carry this as a pocket knife. The attention to detail, the tolerances are superb. If you are looking for a good quality blad that stands out, CJRB is definitely a good choice that doesn't break the bank.As far as value, I've rarely gotten a knife of this quality for less. There's one company out there making even cheaper knives that are high quality, but their tolerances and finishes are not as fine. Altogether I have to say that not only is this piece worth the money, but probably double what I paid. There was a 10 percent coupon available which I used, and it really dropped the price to a level this knife simply doesn't deserve. If you want value for money at this price point, this is a great choice. The color ways were very nice, and I would have been happy with either, but the red looks outstanding. As far as utility, this can go in your pocket for every day use. The nice wide blade makes it ideal for some light food prep in the field. The blade has a nice matte black finish that will prevent things sticking to it. I can see this being great for camping, hiking, fishing, boating, arts and crafts, emergency and survival, just about whatever you throw at it. The blade is long and thick enough to handle field dressing an animal in a pinch, but there are honestly better choices for that. It's not going to filet a fish, but that's also a task that requires specific dedicated equipment that is ultra-thin and sharp. That's not the characteristics you want in an everyday knife.I'm superbly happy. I can see this being a durable, useful choice that will outlive me. I highly recommend it as a gift. Sure, your outdoors-loving family member has knives, but they probably don't have one like this.In summary, it looks fantastic. The quality is great, very well constructed, with precision fit and tolerances. This is not cheaply made. It's useful for a wide variety of tasks, fits in your pocket or clips to you or your gear. There's a hole for a lanyard, and I recommend it. Losing this piece would be a bad day. I love it, and I'm sure I will for the rest of my life.
