H7 X-treme bulb: at first a major disappointment but then found to be great!
April 2016: I installed one bulb on right side... not easy to do in my 2007 Saab 9.5. After all the time, pain, and care using rubber gloves, I find that this bulb is perhaps 10% less bright than the ordinary H7 bulb I have NOT changed on the left side. Needless to say I will NOT spend the time and energy to change the other bulb.September 2016: Above review is erroneous! I had replaced the high beam when I thought it was the low beam and so my test of the bulb was totally inaccurate. Make sure you know which bulb is high beam and which is low! Later in the summer I determined that the X-treme bulb WAS much brighter. So on 9/20/16 I had my mechanic replace the left side high beam with the same X-treme vision H7 and both low-beams with a different model Philips H7 lamp. Of course I now have all new light bulbs and they ARE bright! I recommend that you replace all your bulbs if you think your bulbs are old and you cannot see very well at night when it is raining. The cost is minimal and the savings could be your life. My lenses are very clear and so were not an issue. Replace your lenses if you cannot get them to clear up with a cleaning liquid. Also my 2007 Saab 9.5 DOES have four H7 bulbs which is not clear in the Owner's Manual. Further if you are replacing all four bulbs you may want to do just as I did: put the X-treme Vision bulbs in the high beam location, and a bright general purpose Philips bulb in the low beam positions (outside bulbs both left and right). The X-treme Vision has a fairly narrow beam spread so that it can penetrate a great distance as claimed. Note: My mechanic installed the right side low beam bulb upside down. I could tell that something was wrong by comparing the two low beams; the left side seemed normal (looking at the beam on my white garage door when closed) but the right side was very low and did not light the road very well. I knew that the bulb should be installed with the bulb base rotated so that the flat side would be on the BOTTOM. I guessed that the flat side was on the top. I decided to rotate the bulb myself first removing the air intake hose and then displacing the mass airflow meter taking care to not pull on the associated wiring harness. This is all done to gain better access to the right low-beam bulb. After removing the rubber over, I pulled the wire plug off the bulb, then released the spring clip holding the bulb. It was then quite easy to rotate the bulb 180 degrees. I used a large makeup mirror held by a plastic covered wire to check progress. Once rotated I completed the installation in reverse order making sure that the mass airflow meter and intake air hose were installed correctly. Fortunately the mating parts have large male-female indents making it nearly impossible to assemble incorrectly.

Good bulbs
they do shine bright, but lifespan is not great. they lasted some year and a half.

Very nice in my 2015 VW GTI. Definitely brighter than stock.
Not sure why Amazon says these bulbs won't fit my halogen-equipped GTI; unless I'm missing something, an H7 is an H7. And sure enough, they fit fine and were exactly the same size as the OE part. The bulbs are very nice; definitely whiter and brighter than the shameful stock bulbs VW uses. Some folks seem to have worries that they may not last as long as stock bulbs. Don't know if that's true. And frankly, I don't care. The extra light is worth it. Especially at this price. (Wearing latex gloves when installing is definitely recommended. If oil from your skin gets on the bulb it shortens the life.)A couple of tips for VW GTI/Golf owners:-Watch some online videos on how to change the bulbs. They can be very helpful. However, don't pay attention to the ones that would have you remove the whole headlamp assembly. Totally unnecessary unless you have huge hands. You can access the bulb holder from behind by taking off the rubber boot.-The fuse box on the (U.S.) driver's side is really close to the assembly and makes it hard to access the bulb holder. Go into the front wheel well and release the four front screws from the well cover. Peeling the cover back allows you to access the lamp assembly from the bottom and use two hands.

Phillips X-Treme Vision V.S GE Nighthawk Platinum (H7)
Alright so much like everyone else who has commented on this bulb i did quite a bit of research before deciding which bulbs i wanted to upgrade my stock halogens with. Keep in mind I own a brand new 2015 Hyundai Veloster with less than 1K miles on it so the stock bulbs were actually quite good but i wanted to see if i could get more brightness and distance along with a whiter temperature. The reason i added the nighthawk platinum's into this review is because I bought them both in the same order to do a comparison test with to see which bulbs were brighter, whiter etc because they were the two I was debating over. Now I had originally thought that I was going to put the Phillips in the Hi's and GE's in the lows because I figured the Phillips would be brighter (I do a lot of dark country road driving where there is an over abundance of deer/wild life) but i ended up doing the exact opposite because the GE's in my opinion gave off a whiter light.I tried both bulbs in the hi/low beams on one side vs the original OEM bulbs and let me tell you i wasn't that impressed at all. They were brighter, but not by much and the temperature wasn't substantially whiter. The GE's claimed up to a 90% increase and the Phillips up to a 110% increase over standard halogens. In my particular application I would say they were both 20% brighter. The one thing i do like about these bulbs is they light up further down road, I would say I got a 30% further beam and a 15% wider beam with both bulbs. In my honest opinion if you own a brand new car and your bulbs haven't gone out yet, don't bother buying these thinking your going to get a substantial upgrade because you'll be disappointed. I can imagine though in older vehicles where the bulb quality might be lower these would be a substantial upgrade. In my honest review and after about an hour or two of testing I would honestly rate these two bulbs evenly with the GE's giving off a slightly whiter light so for the price difference definitely get the GE's. I paid $17 and change for the GE's and $28 and change for the Phillips. Lastly, I'm not going to bother uploading any pictures because I don't think you'll even be able to see a difference in the photos. Conclusion: If you own an older vehicle with lower quality bulbs both of these would be a good choice as a replacement, if you own a new vehicle and your looking for a upgrade look elsewhere. Also if your buying either of these thinking your even remotely going to get that HID 6500k diamond whitish blue temperature, you will be sadly disappointed, this is more of a 4500k white.
