Working in a Qnap TS-253Be

So I got this as an upgrade for my Qnap TS-253Be. It's a noticeable performance boost from the generic sticks of 2 x 4 gigs, That I had previously installed. Only issues I ran into where a few random reboots my Nas had. They were spaced out about a month apart. I'm not sure if it was the ram since it is over the max Qnap specifies for the model, but since my warranty ended quite a while ago I decided to give it a shot. Since the last firmware upgrade I haven't had a random reboot so It could have been firmware relate Nock On Wood because having to rebuild the Raid for 20tb drives takes days to complete.Update 09/14/2023 I started having issues with the server randomly rebooting, so I trying different ram to see if that fixes the issue. I did run a 12hr mem test and no errors cropped up. I dont believe its the ram itself that the issue. The cpu is just picky on the type of ram.

Memory upgrade for a Mac

I had to tear apart an iMac - my memory escapes me now but it was like a late 2012 with the screen that uses adhesive to affix it - for an SSD upgrade. I decided to upgrade the RAM at the same time. It's been 6 months now and the machine is still running great post-upgrade. G.Skill has been my go-to memory for PC for years, but it apparently works great with Macs, too.

Work great!

I have read tons of reviews of people saying it didn't speed up their machine... of course it didn't. If you want to speed up your computer get a new Processor. The processor is the brain, the RAM is basically the short term memory. By upgrading your RAM you are increasing the amount of things you can do at one time, it can also boost your computers internet speed.Upgrading a processor is a lot more complicated on a laptop. Ask for professional help. You may have to get a new motherboard if your cpu is not slotted. Which is very complicated, get help from a licensed individual. How to tell if your machine can use these:-Google your model and search max ram. If it says 16gbs then you can run these.-Just to be safe also check your processors max supported RAM. If those are clear then also check what kind of ram you need. You can also find this with your model number.-These are DDR3 ram sticks, which is the standard now a days. Just double check. Now why you would need more ram:-If your a gamer. I do not suggest usong these to try and boost your graphics card. Get a card with at least 1gb dedicated video ram not max.-If your computer is freezing up and your task manager says your memory is almost maxing out.I hope this helps someone. I sadly didn't look up my processor. It maxes at 8gb ram, however luckily my wifes computer had 8gb of the same type of ripjaws. She could handle 16gbs so we just switched, was worth it since my ram was 7 years old.Work great!

CAS9/800 auto set by SPD... BUY THESE MODULES!

These are the GSKILL modules to buy... the "D" series. These are programmed to run CAS9 at 800 (1600) out the gate. The other "S" series modules will have their SPD profiles set to CAS11 by SPD, so if you cannot manually override that in the BIOS, you are stuck with the more conservative timings.I have tried both... These are markedly better performing kits, for just a few bucks more.Depending on the type of workload you put on your RAM, it can mean a difference of anywhere from 100mb/sec raw speeds, up to nearly 1GB/sec transfer rate in Windoze. Can also have an impact on SSD's when using a slice of memory as an additional write cache. My Crucial has it's own proprietary write cache that uses system RAM, and my secondary Sandisk and USB3 PNY drives are just using regular disk cache at the OS level--all of them improved slightly over the CAS11 modules.Overall, my system seems more stable... even older games seemed to have lost some of their quirky stutter here and there, which was a nice bonus.Definitely a strong buy, especially at today's prices.

Great alternative compared to other name brands and their higher pricing.

I installed 4 8Gb memory sticks in my 10 year old Alienware M17 X R3 laptop. Back in its day, this was a top tier laptop that was custom ordered from Alienware. Today I'm not so much into gaming, but I use this laptop for processing astro photos. It has a then top of the line I-7 CPU, and a hefty G Force video card. For its new main use, I experienced a "ran out of memory" message for the very first time when processing an image from my new higher resolution astro camera. Well, the 8 gigs wasn't cutting it anymore, so maxed it out to 32 GB just to be sure. A much cheaper alternative than getting a new laptop. It has plenty of processing power even at its age, and in almost perfect condition. With the added memory I noticed a speed increase as well so an extra bonus that I wasn't sure I would see. Very happy with the renewed performance!
