Good buy, beware of missing items
Probably the best all-around tying kit out there. Seems great for a beginner. I would have given it five stars, but it was missing a few items (squirrel tail, tinsel, bodkin and some of the dubbing). The vice clamp only fits about a 1 1/2 inch tabletop, so it wouldn't fit around the molding of my writing desk. I had to modify it slightly, however I'm sure most clamps are about this size. I'm pretty impressed with the instruction book that came with it. Short and to the point, but you come away with a great deal of knowledge. It's 43 pages with a lot of black and white photos and illustrations.I just finished my first fly (wooly worm) on the tools and material and it turned out as well, if not better than expected. Even without the missing items, I'm still happy with the purchase. Off to tie my second fly now.

Don't waist your money!
I tied many years ago. I have been thinking about tying again. While talking with a friend who was learning to tye, I came across this set and thought it a good deal. The only good thing about it was, I ordered it on Friday and it arrived on Sunday. I was immediately disappointed when I opened the package. The first thing I noticed, was the vice was not the same as the one pictured in the add.it had as twist lock for the hook with a 2" lever used to tighten the jaws. On small hooks this has to be unscrewed or it is in the way while wrapping the bobbin. The one pictured has a cam lever on the back of the vice. Secondly, the throat of the bobbin was so rough, it took 4 attempts, and running the bodkin needle through it several times, before I could even start the thread on the hook without cutting it. The jaws of the hackle pliers are so uneven, they won't hold anything. The scissors are mediocre. I was not expecting top quality for this price, however I did expect it to be usable. Anyone learning on this kit would get so frustrated, they will quit before getting started. Spend a little more, and get a decent starter set. It will be much more enjoyable.

Missing Items
The materials that were included were decent quality and are fine for tying. The reason my rating is so low is i did not receive the whip finisher, or tinsel also the squirrel tail and elk hair were cut in a manner that reduced the amount of usable material, decent kit but couldn't find a way to request items without returning the entire thing

Great starter kit for materials and basic vice but the head cement was dried solid, also the string is not the best.

Good starter kit
Overall this is a good starter kit. The book is not very helpful but with YouTube I was able to get started tying flys in no time. For someone starting out like me this is a good kit for a good price.

Great buy!
This fly tying kit was everything that I was hoping for! I bought this as a Christmas gift for my fiance and he absolutely loves it! It includes everything that you need to get started including a vice to hold your current project. I was really impressed with the price for the amount of supplies that you receive with this kit. Similar kits are going for $100 or more. The only thing I would suggest is including some kind of case.

Bought this kit for our grandson for Christmas. He is new at tying flies and has not yet tied his first fly. The kit looked like it had all the necessary components for a beginner fly tier.
