Awesome for trout fishing.
The state stocks trout in several ponds near me in the spring, fall, and winter. There isn't much skill involved in catching them. It's really a sit & wait type of fishing which really requires a rod holder to be enjoyable.I bought the two pack just for trout fishing at the ponds. Unlike the long telescoping fork type that I used previously, these are small enough to carry in a small tackle bag. After I ordered these, I read some reviews on other rod holders which mentioned sharp edges and rough spots. These rod holders have none of this. These are smooth and well made. The holders twist and snap together firmly & most rods should fit them just fine. The spike part is a pretty thick cast alloy, so it went in the ground easily even when there were small rocks and tree roots to deal with.

Maybe for pan fish.
I returned them. Probably my fault for not taking out a tape and getting a good perspective on size. Either way I doubt they would hold up in soil without a lanyard. They would laugh at a sand beach.

Absolutely worthless! WASTE OF MONEY
Absolutely hate them! Worthless..catfish pulled the rod straight out of the holder and almost lost my rod and reel. Pushed the spike into a muddy bank and it bent the first time. Do not waste your money. Go to Walmart and get the spiral rod holder for $3, works much better and a LOT better material.

I got a these. I put them in the ground and I landed a catfish the first day I used it. The aluminum spike part bent in half 90 degrees and I almost lost my 250 dollar rod and reel combo. Luckily the head of the reel got caught on a stone, It was a 6lb 12oz catfish. The second I heard a noise I looked and didnt see my rod. Literally the second the cat hit my bait it failed. Dont buy these unless you fish for minnows.
