The Nutcracker: A Magic Theater Book

Good book. Pop art not what I imagined.
This is a lovely book with a well told version of the Nutcracker. We weren't familiar with a tale told without the name Clara. We have the Narnia pop up book and I was expecting this book to be as elaborate as that one but it is not. The "wizardry" of the paper work is good quality but does not have the "dancing" quality the product description led me to believe. Narnia's artwork literally pops out with great detail. This book's pop art moves through page windows and is more simple. My daughter loves the Nutcracker ballet and she treasures this book!

a must-have version
Beautiful book! Not only a book but a piece of kinetic art. Very detailed and intricate pictures with a nice summarized version of the story. I love that there's movement as the page turns instead of having to pull a tab. They're a little stiff to turn, but I suppose they'll loosen up with use.

Beautiful art!
This is a beautiful book! It differs a bit from the traditional nutcracker but it is still a really cool thing to pull out every Christmas and put on the mantle for the littles! The artwork is stunning.

beautiful book!
My girls adored this book. Got it for them (6.5yos) for Christmas and they couldn't put it down. It was part of our advent calendar presents and we gave it to them right after the rockette show at Radiocity Musical Hall. They love all the moving parts (and are gentle with it). the book is pretty well made, with a little care, it will last in the family for many years to come!

Great gift for a young child
I gave this book to a young relative of mine to prepare her for her first viewing of the Nutcracker performed by a professional ballet company. The illustrations are beautiful and the interactive element is fun for reading to a child at bedtime.

Beautiful Art
If you have a child in your life who loves ballet or the nutcracker don't hesitate to purchase this book. The detial is outstanding. I would have gladly paid twice this amount for a book of such high quality. My children love looking at all the pictures and moving peices.

It's a beautiful book that I bought as a gift for a 4 year old. Needless to say, she loved it. The way the characters moved as you flipped through the book was magical. Highly recommend this book. The visuals are stunning.

Back To Childhood
it was and exciting too. Got this book as a carrier for the ballet tickets to see The Nutcracker in London and nearly missed the train playing with book ;-) but seriously, it is lovely drawn and the story nicely told and therefor a good preparation for the ballet itself since we couldn't quite remember the storyline from school. But it is not a book for very little one to play with since the moving parts are a bit sticky and I reckon a frustrated youngster would propably break it in no time (that is me in my younger days)

Nutcracker
I was hugely disappointed with this book (though the actual book was wonderful) because they have changed the traditional name of the girl in the story from Clara to Maria and I was buying it for a granddaughter named Clara!

Perfect Christmas present for little girls
Bought this for my goddaughter as a Christmas present and she absolutely loved it. Really beautiful book with lots of amazing pop up illustrations, much more sophisticated than those in most children's books. Great introduction to the story of the Nutcracker, when she is a bit older (currently 4) I am hoping to take her to see the real thing on the stage and this has definitely been a real hit.

It's great - a lovely story and beautifully illustrated. The children loved it and it really caught their imagination. Fab.

Very pretty, but FRAGILE- handle with care!
Because of the fragility of this book, I'd only recommend it to parents of mature little children who know that some things are delicate and need to be treated with care. If your child is still grabbing and manhandling things as if everything is indestructable, then this book won't last five minutes in their care. So unfortunately after a couple of attempts, we've had to put this book on a high shelf out of harm's way for a couple of years until our daughter's old enough to appreciate it.That important point said, it's a very pretty book. The central design of it is very sweet and a well thought-out way to bring a tunnel book to life. The way in which the characters within the central circle move in and out of their frame as the pages turn is neat. It's a little bit clunky if you don't apply pressure at the right points, but mostly it works very well. The story is well-written. It manages to be faithful to the traditional story but also bring in a few modern references, and it avoids being stuffy. This is a beautiful little book, mainly aimed at slightly older girls going through a 'princess' phase, but beware the fragility- a careless pair of little hands could ruin this book in seconds.
