Learn lots of magic!
My son has learned tons of magic tricks from renting it several times from the library. He now has his own copy and is thrilled. Very large, nicely put together hard cover. I would definitely recommend.

Not what I thought
I checked this book out at our public library without looking at it for my 6 years old child. There are some magic tricks for your child to learn, but there is also a history on Magic, which has sections including witchcraft and the occult, sorcery, conjuring, and wizards. If you are just looking for a book that teaches your child only tricks and not history, then this is not the book for you. The positive thing about the book are the tricks in the book are pretty neat for any kid to learn. Some of the tricks are the tightrope ball, impossible predictions, the magic string, and cups and balls to name a few. The instructions for each trick seem easy to follow.

Lots of great tricks you can do at home and make with ...
Lots of great tricks you can do at home and make with simple household objects. My daughter got this when she was 5 and loves the magic tricks in here. It discusses different magical effects (vanishing, prediction, levitation, production, teleportation, transformation, restoration and escapology) and techniques like misdirection and the principles of sleight of hand. It also has a page about Houdini and pages about street magic and stage magic. This book is probably meant for kids 8-12 but my 5 year old loves reading it with me.There is a small section on magic history, about 12 pages or so, and then it moves on to technique and tricks. There is a page titled "witchcraft and the occult" in the short history section. It says occult means "knowledge of the supernatural" and has little factoids about Macbeth and the Salem Witch Trials and even wicca. It is brief, non-detailed, and fits into the history section comfortably and in a non scary way. It fits with the history section about magic in ancient times, sorcery and wizards (like shamans), alchemy, and mysticism.

History of the Occult?!? No, thanks.
Horrible book for young kids because it's not just magic tricks. It includes sections on sorcery, witchcraft, the occult, Wicca, etc.Save your money and buy a magic trick book if that's what your kid wants, not a history of magic book.
