Finally one that works!
My parents have for years had a doorknob with the wrong size replacement spindle inside because it was all they could find. It was forever falling apart and effectively trapping the door shut. This spindle is long enough and adjustable, with three holes to choose from. If it initially doesn’t seem to want to go into the hole, you can unscrew the ends from each other and remove the little squares in the middle. That feature makes this spindle fit more of a variety of these old doors. It made a very easy fix to these great quality older doors with stylish knobs that you just will not find in new doors today. Thank you!!

A little long
It works great but it’s too long so the door knob jiggles.

Repairs old entry doors with the bigger swivel spindle
My 120 year old front door spindle finally gave out. Not only are these thicker than regular spindles, but they also swivel since there is a way to set these locksets to lock so they can only be opened from the inside (the square insert they spin is actually two separate pieces). This is the only swivel spindle I could find that fit. It seems to be a regular thickness spindle with a shim on it to replicate the original thickness of the larger block of metal in the middle. This is a good thing, because it also means you can use it with modern replacement door knobs. In my case the old knobs wouldn't come off the leftover spindle pieces, so that universality was appreciated! For reference, it seems that regular spindles are about a 32nd more than 1/4" thick, so 9/32" and these older swivel spindles have a center that is a 32nd short of 3/8", so 11/32"

Worked with Old Yale Mortise Lock with Slight Modification
Worked with 1929 Yale mortise lock using the included shims. The trick is to center the spindle so both door handles operate independently. Recommend screwing both sides together and then backing off one full turn. The threaded spindles are the standard size and fit my 35 year old Baldwin lever handles. One word of caution: As some have noted, the spindles are very long and may bottom out on standard handles leaving the door handle sticking out. The solution is to cut the spindle on both sides to the correct length. This is easily done with a hacksaw. Finding swivel spindles with included shims is becoming very difficult. I ordered an extra one just to have a spare.

Grateful
I have an Old Tudor with an antique door and Knob. When my door knob fell off I visited three stores looking for a spindle. I am working on being more handy. I took the know apart and measured the spindle and searched amazon. Very happy I found this merchant. I received a brand new spindle packaged securely within days and my knob is now working perfectly. A locksmith's high price quote to take care of my knob encourage me to do it on my own. I am happy I found this merchant as I could not find the piece in my large city.

Did not fit.
The spindle is very thick around the middle and did not fit through the mortise lockset on my door. The middle is also collapsible (twists) which compromises the integrity of the product since it would have gotten a lot of use in a high traffic...door. The return costs about $4.00 for a $9 spindle, hmmmm....

Not universal in my 100 year old house.
It is too big for all the doors in my house despite being adjustable.
