Q: Has anyone gotten this for a regular Wii and got it working? Can a USB 3.0 external hard drive even work with the Wii?

The regular Wii does not normally support USB storage devices, but a modified Wii will support them. If you have a modified Wii, this would work to power your hard drive.

Q: Can I power the 2nd USB cable from a wall outlet via a charge adapter? Have a WiiU and don't want to use both rear USB ports.

I would expect your idea to work. I am using this cable to connect a bus-powered, portable USB 3 drive to my Roku USB 2 port. After connecting this cable to the drive, I connect the power-only plug of this cable to a powered USB 2 hub, then connect the data plug of this cable directly to my Roku 2 XS. The Roku cannot provide the needed 1000 mA to power the portable drive, but the old hub provides plenty of power. (The hub does not connect to the Roku. It is only used as a power source because the Roku was unable to recognize the drive when connected to hub that was then connected to the Roku. Only direct connection of drive to Roku works for me.)

That is not what it is designed for. It is designed to connect a device with a Micro-B connector to a PC.For example, I have Satechi powered USB-3 hub that I use this cable to connect to my PC. The Micro-B connector plugs into the hub with the USB connector plugging into the computer. I plug multiple devices into the hub. This cable works perfectly well if used as designed.My hub has 9 ports in three groups of 3 ports. Each group has an individual power switch. In addition, there is a port at the end of the switch designed to power a device requiring higher power consumption (like an iPad). This cable works great. I had to buy it after losing the original cable that came with my hub.Hope this helps.
