to not break old things
not bad but awkward to use.i have + old one from Tandy's it is great no batts needed to power it but the part that checks the button battery broke off or I wouldn't have needed a new one.u have to hold batts upside down to test + hold the negative lead to the bottom of the batt.but I think it will get easier in time so not bad + at least it tests about 13 batts.so quite good I'd say.

Good battery tester
I bought this to replace an inferior battery tester that was no longer working. This is quite unusual in its design, but easy to use. Just put the battery's positive end on the right point, and attach the needle end, and it shows what percentage of power it has. Seems to be very accurate.

Great product
Does exactly what it is supposed to do. Good value.

It’s fairly awkward to operate.
Why didn’t they have a recess to fit the battery’s like AA or AAA, it’s awkward trying to hold the battery on the contact without it slipping off.

New style
This is a new style of batter checker to me - the others I've had have been pretty basic (pretty sure one was a free gift with a multipack) but this item is definitely a step up for testing. The first thing you notice, of course, it that it can cope with all of the different (standard) sizes of battery. Everything from button batteries to 9V blocks, which is great when you are trying to keep a battery store.I'm one of those people who has a little pile of batteries nearby, I can never tell if it is the "newly charged" pile or the "take them to recycling pile" - this solves the issue.Basically you just hold the positive end of the battery ( the sticky out bit) into the little indent requested. You will then find a second probe to hold against the negative side, after which the strength of charge will be displayed. its a little clumsy to do to start with but you soon get the hang of what's expected. I guess this is how they make the tester work for such a large range of battery sizes.I really appreciate the LED display which gives you an idea of the amount of charge on each battery, whether you are testing after use to see if they're spent or not, or looking to see how efficiently your charger is working. Also handy to see if rechargeable really do store the power value as stated before purchase! Yes I'm looking at you 2800mAh AAs!If you like to keep charged batteries on hand for an emergency situation this is handy to see if your stash is losing its power in storage. However, it's better to rotate batteries and let them fully discharge from time to time so you can recharge from zero to reserve its full power range. At £23.59 it's not particularly cheap, but you do get what you pay for - hopefully this will give many years of use (until those AAs and AAAs fall out of favour, once and for all!)Four stars.
