Finally have a backup cam!
2011 4Runner, it doesn't have a backup camera. Finally decided to use this since a friend said there are solar and wireless ones now and so I gave this a try. First things first, on a 5th gen 4runner, to lift up the liftgate, this solar camera when mounted to the license plate WILL block the handle. I didn't feel like mounting it to the lower portion of the plate for a few reasons, but I was able to modify the AUTO-VOX bracket slightly to still use it in the top 4runner plate holes. I essentially flipped the camera mount upside down (like you would if mounting to the lower holes of the plate), positioned it just low enough for the top holes to work, marked and then drilled two small holes and inserted two small bolts and nuts through these top holes so that the mount would rest on these bolts so the camera mount woudln't tilt as you close the liftgate. The other thing is the way to tighten the license plate down now is sort of blocked by the camera and battery pack, so I swapped out the license plate bolts to M6 (same thread as the lic plate bolts) so you can tighten it down from the side using an open-ended wrench. This method has been secure and is holding up. Slightly less convenient that just slamming your hand up into the liftgate latch, but if you go from the side (in between the liftgate latch handle and the camera), it works fine. One reviewer said it takes a minute to connect -- not so in my case. I counted 5 seconds before you get your camera and monitor to pair up when you hit the button, not a big deal at all. Maybe his setup has more interference but with a 4runner if you mount the monitor onto the center console/dash area, it's totally fine. There is also no lag.I didn't like the dash mount this came with, but noticed the ballhead is the same 17mm ballhead that all cell phone car vent mounts use, so I bought just the vent-clip ballhead and mounted it to my air vent instead. It's just a better spot than on top of hte dash IMO.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08FX7BL84?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_titleOne thing is this method makes it look like you left your cell phone in the car, but hopefully since it's horizontal, it will look a little less like a cell, and since it's not in a cell phone holder's cradle, perhaps that helps too.Used this for the 4runner's 12V charger and it fits perfectly in the lower cubby hole (which I used some sticky mat material so it doesn't slide around. This socket adapter still lets me use IMO a better/more powerful charger than the one included with the camera. I have the camera's cig lighter plugged into this device instead and charge my phones using this same device and not the camera's plug.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C1MR5VDT?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_titleYou can use these clips to neatly tuck the wires along the side of the radio console:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BFNP4W9?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1You can likely use smaller ones if you'd like, but these worked for me as I also route wires for an Auxbeam controller along the same path. One thing to mention is the guide lines obviously don't turn like they do on a factory camera's, but I assume that's going to be true with any aftermarket one.

AUTO-VOX 7.2" DVR Portable Solar Wireless Backup Camera
After a few weeks of using the AUTO-VOX 7.2" DVR Portable Solar Wireless Backup Camera, I'm thoroughly impressed with this addition to my vehicle.## What I LoveThe solar-powered feature is a game-changer - no need to worry about battery life or complicated wiring. The 7.2" screen is significantly larger and clearer than their 5" model, making it much easier to see what's behind you. The build quality is noticeably superior too.One of the standout features is how precisely you can set it up for backing up to a trailer. It takes the guesswork out of hitching and provides peace of mind when maneuvering.## Minor DrawbackThe only downside is that it doesn't automatically activate when you put your vehicle in reverse - it stays on continuously. However, this could be seen as a benefit since you can always keep an eye on your trailer while driving.## Who Should Buy ThisThis camera system is perfect for people with older trucks that don't have built-in backup cameras. It's an affordable way to add modern safety features to any vehicle.## Overall RecommendationHaving purchased three different AUTO-VOX products, I can confidently say their quality is consistent across their product line. I recommend this product and company 100%. Their customer service is top-notch, which is crucial when investing in vehicle technology. If you're looking for a reliable, well-built backup camera with excellent visibility, the AUTO-VOX 7.2" Solar Wireless model is definitely worth considering.

Backup Camera for Monitoring
In order to have a recording in case of an accident, I purchased the Auto Vox Wireless Solar 3C Backup Camera. The installation was easy and straightforward without the hassle of wiring. It can be installed on either the front or rear end of the vehicle. The camera and monitor are paired via Bluetooth allowing for quick and wireless connectivity. The image quality is clear even in low lighting, and the wide-angle view provides adequate coverage of the surroundings. The camera operates in real-time when the vehicle is in reverse or drive and supports 8G-64G TF cards for recording.I really like the size of the monitor and its menu features, which are easy to navigate and customize. One notable feature is the ability to rotate or mirror the image depending on the location of the camera, making the set up more versatile. You can also connect an additional camera to the same monitor and switch between the two channels.Overall, the Auto Vox Wireless Solar 3C Backup Camera is reliable and user-friendly, while providing an extra layer of safety on the road. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a quality, wireless camera system.
