An absolute must for handing rough road conditions

I’m writing this having just gone through extensive wrist surgery ending in a wrist fusion, all of which comes after 15 years of pain from a scaphoid non-fusion.For starters, this is not suspension. Don’t expect your bike to feel like you have a 100mm Rockshox form installed. What this stem does, is reduce the shock felt from heavy hits such as pot holes or sewage caps. For me, it’s made street riding enjoyable again. After 2hrs on the bike, I can enjoy my evenings again instead of having to ice my wrist to manage the pain. Also, it doesn’t feel heavy or spongy during riding, and the adjustable cushions allow you to compensate for different rider weights. This stem has finally restored my enjoyment in road cycling again and I’ll be ordering more for all my other bikes.

Absolutely worth the investment

I am a big rider at 235 solid plus race kit I’m easily 255lbs on the bike (water, gear). I gave this a shot because I needed a longer stem and read the positive feedback from others. Purchased the 90mm length 6* degree stem and installed the 90 & 70lb rubber combo for a 70 miler gravel race. I trained hard and never used it in my training prior until the day of the race. The results surpassed my expectations as I placed 1st in my category men’s 30-39 which was competitive. Placed 7th among all males and 8th overall across all categories participating in the course (age, gender). Wow, life milestone achieved and so much more potential to improve. I was able to navigate rough terrain with much less hand/grip fatigue and most importantly a lot more bike control which produced faster and consistent speeds while others couldn’t.Now the only downside of it is the weight because it is the heaviest stem you’ll purchase unless you buy a carbon version of that is offered but I don’t think paying hundreds more is worth it over the base material version at $200+. I still rate this innovative stem 5 stars as the benefits far outweigh the weight & cost. If you need a lighter stem then do it! I’m not a pro where weight matters much as I am already a freak of a Clydesdale. I’m going to defy the smaller riders and beat them in the next race here soon. Big boy season has begun.

Great Bike Upgrade!

I recently upgraded my bike from a hybrid (2012 Trek 7100) to a rigid gravel bike (Priority Apollo). Unfortunately, I immediately found my lower back screaming at me after only 12 miles due to the rigid nature of the new bike (my Trek had a cheap fork suspension and seat suspension)! Since I had been watching the Shockstop Stem and Seatpost for ages, I was alerted when they went on sale over Amazon's Prime day so I decided to try them out.Needless to say, they were a great upgrade for me! Now I'm back to my usual 20-30miles rides without any of the lower back pain I had been getting! The difference has been noticeable both on the road and on gravel trails.I should note that I use both the stem and seatpost in the "performance" configuration. This keeps the bike more rigid while still absorbing the nastier bumps (my 40mm tires handle the smaller stuff). As a result, I feel more in control as the handlebars and seat don't feel like they are about to eject me whenever I hit a large bump. Likewise, I don't feel like my handlebars are just flopping around with every bump either like the more comfort configuration does (to me, at least).Overall, while they are a tad expensive, the stem/post upgrades have definitely been worth it for me! They are no substitute for a real suspension but, at fraction of the weight, they do great for those nasty city roads and occasional gravel trail.(Review cross-posted on Seatpost since I bought, installed, and use them together!)

Good But Not Great!

When I first saw the video for this, I HAD TO HAVE IT!!! I'm riding a hybrid Cannondale Bad Boy lll. It's known as a commuter, with no suspension. I ride bike paths, not roads, daily, trying to lose weight and stay in shape. With the numerous cracks and uneven payment, I thought this would be a game changer, especially when I saw the video advertising it. The bike's handlebars were flexing significantly up and down, softening the rider's ride... THATS NOT WHAT MY EXPERIENCE WAS IN THE BEGINNING!Let's be clear, and keep expectations in check. It's a bike, not a car, or a car suspension... But with that said, the stem arrives with the highest setting, and there's zero flex or cushion! Why anyone would spend so much money on this product for it to be the same as when the product is not installed and using the original OEM stem, I have no idea.It should also be noted and clear, you're GOING TO HAVE TO GO TO the manufacturer's website and watch the video on how to disassemble it to adjust and change out the "cushions", that allow a harder or softer ride. The instructions that come with it are garbage, and I have a PhD from an ivy league school. This is where it gets tricky... When you disassemble the stem, there's two little cushions, that look like oversized gummy bears. The system comes with a few of these cushions from harder to softer. You add the appropriate cushions for the type of ride you want. The problem was, even with the 2 softest "cushions", the ride wasn't even close to what was in the advertised video, or what I would consider to even justify the expence to ride quality. So, what I did was simply put in JUST ONE of the cushions (the softest), instead of two of them! It didn't say to do this, but it also didn't say not to🤣. Look, you don't want it too soft where you're bouncing, or too hard that you feel the bumps of the trail/road/surface travel up the front forks and continue abruptly through your hands and arms... Using just one cushion is what I call "GOLDILOCKS"... ITS JUST RIGHT!! I've ridden about 500 miles, and at this setting, there's been no issues. The best way to describe this product, isn't that it'll eliminate the bumps, but simply it'll smooth out your ride and make it more comfortable...To the manufacturer... If you're reading this, you have a good product, but to have a GREAT one, eliminate the cushions, and use springs. The seat post version of the suspension system IS AMAZING!! THE BEST EVER!! But it uses a spring system which is more adjustable and a softer ride.Obviously, everyone is going to have their own opinions and preference. I hope this helps you make the decision to get it or not.I highly recommend this product.
