Q: Is the Raspberry Pi compatibility the hardware or software? Would this work with Orange Pi 5 Plus hardware or is that dependent on OS choice?

The controller has a switch that allows to change between direct, Xinput adn keyboard mode, so I guess it will work fine with a raspberry pi (if the os or software allow it).
