Auto-Vox Cam7 ***Important note: this is a camera only. To be used with an existing monitor***
I ordered the new AUTO-VOX CAM7 as an upgrade to my AUTO-VOX T9 REARVIEW MIRROR kit installed on my 2001 Ford F250. The goal was to replace the T9 license plate mounted camera to get a better downward view of my trailer hitch. This would help with hitch alignment when hooking up a trailer. My T9 license plate mounted camera is almost level with the hitch and makes it difficult to see when the hitch is directly over the ball.CAM7 offers several features: PAL CVBS or AHD video output, video flipping, and video mirroring. The flipping feature was also important to me since the T9 camera did not offer this and limited my mounting options. All options are selected by clipping a jumper wire located on the CAM7 harness. GREEN for output type, WHITE for Flipping, and BLUE for mirroring. All options are spelled out clearly in the included installation instructions. I required clipping all 3 wires for my installation. The CAM7 is very reasonably priced for the quality I have come to expect with AUTO-VOX products and as expected, Amazon delivered very quickly. The nicely boxed camera came with everything needed for installation included. Again, it is Important to note that this is a camera only, to be used with an existing monitor. My installation did not require the use of the included video cable to be installed as I already had a cable that came with the T9 kit installed. But if needed, the installation instructions are very easy to follow. In my case, the connector for the new CAM7 to the existing T9 video cable is identical, so it was “plug and play”. All my power and video connections were already complete. I chose to mount the CAM7 to a magnet so I can test several locations before drilling any holes in the tailgate. This mounting option would require clipping all 3 jumper wires on the CAM7 harness. AHD video output for the T9 Mirror and my image flipped and mirrored to appear correct. With the camera connected and positioned, results are shown in the photos. The image is very clear during a bright sunny day. I do like the image quality of both T9 and CAM7 AUTO-VOX cameras. I have not tested the CAM7 in the dark yet. One image shows the truck in reverse and the view angled down (a feature of the T9 REARVIEW MIRROR) and it clearly does what I wanted. A great top-down view of the hitch. With the camera angle all the way up and the truck in reverse, the view is acceptable for backing up. Unfortunately, with the camera angle all the way up and the truck in Drive, I could not achieve an acceptable angle for REARVIEW mode while driving.Wrap Up, I like the mounting options of this CAM7 over the camera that came with the T9 kit. The image quality is outstanding so far. It looks to be very well built and good quality. Video flipping and mirroring are important updates in my opinion. I did opt to go back to the T9 camera for now because I use the camera in rearview mode often. But I will continue to experiment with mounting options. My thought is to make a wedge type base to install between the CAM7 and the tailgate to reduce the downward angle of the camera and lower the CAM7 position on the tailgate. I will update this review as I go along.

A definite upgrade in build and image quality!!
I purchased the V5Pro dash cam / backup camera system last March for my little MX5 GT sports car, and have been extremely pleased with it ever since!!This is an OEM factory-looking rear view mirror with an integrated front facing dash cam, as well as a remotely wired rear dash cam / back-up camera. The Cam7 is an updated, higher resolution rear mount camera, with built-in fish eye correction.Upon receipt, the new Cam7 is extremely well made, the external housing appearing to be made of a solid block of aluminum, with a glass lense for the camera. This is definitely a solidly built camera!!The original rear camera that came with the V5Pro used an adjustable license plate mounting bracket / double sided acrylic adhesive tape for installation, where the new Cam7 uses a hollow threaded rod / double sided acrylic adhesive - so in most applications a hole will have to be available or made for the threaded / wire to pass through for this new Cam7.On my particular application this also led to another issue. The original V5Pro rear camera mount was adjustable on 2 axis - left/right and up/down, however due to the new durable aluminum housing design on the Cam7 and it's threaded rod / double sided acrylic adhesive tape mounting, this camera is not adjustable so the mounting surface will need to be high enough and parallel to the ground to get an appropriate view to the rear.... Not likely an issue in most applications, but on my very low sports car, I needed to fabricate a small wedge block for between the Cam7 and the rear mounting surface of my MX5 to angle the camera up a bit. Not a major deal, but definitely something to note for those with very low or unique mounting areas.I will also note that through trial and error, and because it isn't clear in the instructions, that I found that in both rear view dash cam mode, and in 'back-up' mode, the view on the mirror display from the rear camera can be adjusted up / down by touching your finger to the screen and sliding up or down as needed. This function definitely helped me to get a great rear view if the car both in rear dash came mode, and in 'back-up' mode, and may well have negated my need for the additional wedge, but this function wasn't discovered until well into the installation....As for the end result - this Cam7 is definitely an upgrade over the original V5Pro rear camera, both in quality of the unit, and the quality of the image from it!!I am very pleased with the upgrade , and happy that I made the effort to make it work in my application.

Does what is says
Its way fisheyed so if you want a more direct view get something else. If you want to see everything behind you but really small, this is what you want.

Great camera and quality.
Camera works perfectly. Crisp clear camera that allows me to see a wider angle when reversing. Been using it for over a year now. Works well at night. I secured it with the bolt for stability. Hasn’t faltered yet. Great buy.
