Q: Safe to use with br40 led bulb?

No, BR40 bulbs are slightly too large and give off too much heat for this trim to dissipate, which could cause your thermal protection sensors in your housing to shut the unit off entirely as a safeguard. This is designed for BR30 and PAR30 bulbs only.

Q: Would it be okay to use this trim with br40 led bulbs rated for use in an enclosed indoor fixture (mfg spec for the bulb states "low heat")?

Yes, it would so long as the bulb fits. However, we don't have any bulbs here to test it to see if it fits. Contact NICOR, ask for Brett and I'll see about getting a sample sent out to you.

Q: Could this be used with shallow housing or only standard? we have cooper lighting h27icat 6-inch shallow ceiling ic airtite housings.

This trim measures 5.5 inches from top to bottom. It will not fit into a shallow can since they're all going to be 5.5 inches or shorter. The H27ICAT Shallow housing is only 5 inches in height.

Q: Can I use these to replace baffles that were previously attached with springs?

Yes, but you need to make sure there's an anchor (or spot to anchor) the v-springs to inside your housing. If there is not an anchor point inside the housing, you can use our mounting clips to do so. Search for "nicor mountingclip" on Amazon and look at the images to see how they attach to your existing housing. This should do the trick.
