Quite a challenge to configure
The unit might be a very good value, but is very difficult to configure. No manual is included with the package, but Amazon tech support provided a link to a manual for a slightly different product, which is of little help. The initial configuration steps are a mystery. Should one connect via a browser? Or hook up a 1080p TV? Or VGA monitor? The device I received obtains an IP address via DHCP, but I had no success when attempting to login in using the suggested "blank" or "admin" passwords. Using those values (or many other plausible variants) always resulted in "login failed". So I then hooked up the device to a TV via HDMI and connected a USB mouse. I get a reasonably coherent display, except that everything is in Chinese. I hooked up the unit to a VGA monitor; can now see full display (but still all in Chinese). I found a tool on the web to generate a a temporary password; that worked for the VGA connection, but with the display in Chinese, I could not figure out how to switch to English. The temporary password did not work for the browser connection. But FINALLY! I found another posting for the identical product (HOSAFE) which suggested using 888888 as the password. It worked! I can now log in using Chrome from my iMac.Here are my conclusions: the NVR can record to a USB hard drive, but not a USB stick. Motion detection seems to require configuration in the IP camera to work (maybe an expert could explain). The NVR is working well with a low cost SV3C camera.

Decent for price
This is a decent little NVR for the price. Programming isn't as intuitive as some other NVRs but I figured it out. My biggest complaint is the mini USB power connector. It is flimsy and so far I've seen two of these units fail after the USB connector detached from the PC board. On my latest NVR I plan to hot glue the plug into the connector so that it cannot wiggle and ultimately break. This NVR is boots as "NVR 2.0" and is running Firmware 1.3.3.2018-09-14 and is an improvement but interface now lacks ability to display multiple cameras with one camera larger than the others. This was accessed by selecting 9 camera display mode in the previous software.

can view and record locally , not remotely
it does record and play back no issues there. my issue is i cant get the app to work . i scan the QR code and it always says "cameras are off online " if I am on the same network it works fine - once my phone is not on the same wifi it says " cameras are off online" also i can see the interface remotely ( set up port forwarding ) .. but the cameras do now show up.. again locally not an issue - its when trying to view remotely

cheap and simple
Plain and Simple. I use a blue iris based server for my main recording and wanted something to display my cameras on the tv, remote monitor. only two of my cameras dont support onvif, but thats fine. I dont use this for recording, motion or alarms; just viewing. for dahua cameras the onvif port is 80 and the setting has to be enabled online in the network settings and default u/p is admin admin. if you dont see an option in settings for onvid you dont have it. for hikvision the port is 80 and the u/p is the same as your web login. however, if you dont see the option then it is already enabled. later firmwares disable the feature by default but put an option in settings to enable.

DONT PURCHASE
I was using as a live veiw for 2nd display. And about 3 weeks after i installed it, the NVR started, with the image freezing, and power cycling itself. Its currently frozen on boot screen.
