Daruma, with no arms or legs, are modelled on an ancient Buddhist monk who, after nine years sitting meditating in a cave, lost the use of his arms and legs. A daruma is thought to bring good luck. One eye is painted in when a person sets out on a task and then the other eye is painted in when his/her goal has been achieved. Height: 9cm. Please note hand-crafted dolls are more likely to have minor blemishes than mass-produced dolls.

Interesting product
While reading Dr Richard Wisemans book the luck factor he mentions the Japanese good luck doll, I decided to give it try.Cannot comment on its efficacy yet, will update when my goal is achieved

The item came promptly (JAPANYA is an excellent seller), the paint job was good and the item was well shaped. For this item's price point, it gives pretty good value. If you're getting this as a cute decoration, I strongly recommend this one.However, if you're thinking of getting a Daruma Doll for someone who needs encouragement, don't get this one. The Japanese proverb, "Nana korobi, ya oki" (Fall seven times, get up eight), which is often applied to Daruma dolls certainly doesn't describe this one. Its poor balancing point means that you'd be lucky if it ever rolls back upright, if at all.

It's lovely
I thought it would be a bit more able to swing up and down - i.e. knock it down and it swings up - but that's a tiny thing. It's lovely. Lovely bright colour and bigger than I thought. Now for that intention ...

Great little thing for the price you pay
Great little thing for the price you pay, especially since postage is free. Was a little worried that I wouldn't stand, but no problems there. Very well painted and solid. Now I just need to keep my promise!
