Poem a Day: Vol. 1: 366 Poems, Old and New - One for Each Day of the Year

If you are a poetry lover this wonderful collection should be in your personal library.
I love this book and I do not often begin my reviews with that statement. If you are a poetry lover this volume should be in your collection. This huge 485 page book (A Poem a Day edited by Karen McCosker and Nicholas Albery) has a poem to read and possibly memorize for every day of the year. The selections include early poems and poets as well as more contemporary poems. There are three primary reasons why I love this poetry collection. (1) Most of the poems are not overly long. The simple fact is, I love the shorter poems and find most of the long ones often boring and tedious. (2) There is a short bio of each author at the bottom of the page, which makes reading the poem more meaningful. I think it is important to know something about the poet to better appreciate the poem. (3) It is truly a beautiful poetry collection from the past poets to the present. If you are a poetry lover this book will be your “cup of tea.” I loved it.Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Great books for adding more poetry to your life
I gave copies of this to my mom and my daughters recently, and purchased a copy for myself. We all love poetry, and we wanted to share it together, even though we don’t all live in the same place. There’s a poem for each day of the year. Even if we forget some days, we know when we open to today’s date that we’ve all read the same poem and can talk about it. Such a lovely idea, with a wide range of poets and styles. Perfect for our purposes. And, there are two more volumes!

Great introduction to poets you may not have heard of...
Admittedly, I'm only a couple months into this book. However, I've already been introduced to several poets and poems I was unfamiliar with and have gone down a few different rabbit trails researching them. Really love the clean layout of the book and the informational footnotes (and sidenotes) that follow many/most of the poems. Great resource.

THis is how I begin my day...
Years ago, I bought Volume 1 of a poem a day, then 2 and now 3. It's just the perfect way to start my morning. I mark my favorite lines and poems and use them for either other presentations or just words of wisdom to inspire me.

One of the best investment you'll ever make...
Extremely well written poems from all the best poets in history. Students who have attended my seminars will recall that I strongly recommend to every aspiring writer that they invest two minutes a day in reading a well-written poem. (No other investment of time will do as much to add color and electricity to your words or enhance your powers of persuasion.) It's almost as if Karen McCosker and Nicholas Albery compiled this book specifically to accomplish that directive! A Poem a Day features 365 brilliantly chosen poems and assigns one to each day of the year. (Month and Day are prominently emblazoned at the top of each page, much like a calendar. A very handy feature for keeping "on schedule" in your reading and for getting "caught up" when you fall behind.Invest in yourself. Make this book yours.NOTE TO THE PUBLISHER: Considering the handling this book will receive, why not publish it in hardback? Please?

We love this collection, and read one nearly every day at lunch meal time.
We love this collection, and read one nearly every day at lunch meal time. And we like the short background paragraph with each poem to give us context for the piece.

Great book to read each day and exchaythoughts with friends. Just one poem a day — some beautiful, some horrible, some funny, some heartbreaking

A must read
This book has been a lovely accessory next to my bedside. I read a poem a day and it is a great way to start or even end the day. There is a poem on each page and you get a footnote for each about the post which I found interesting as it explains why or how they were inspired to write this poem.
