great oximeter, infant probe difficult to keep on my baby's feet..
I bought this product with an infant probe to use with my newborn for my own reassurance that his oxygen levels remained stable after he was discharged from hospital after an admission when he was 6 weeks old. He developed high fever and received antibiotics until meningitis was finally ruled out.His breathing has been always noisy (laryngomalacia) worse at night, and in hospital we were reassured as his oxygen saturation was normal. I wanted to monitor his oxygen at home for a couple of nights. The probes used in hospital are less bulky and stay longer in contact with the skin. Having said that they are hospital grade probes, disposable and hence quite expensive and also quite often as babies move so much, the probe comes out so nurses many times use special medical tape to keep them in place.Unless your baby is not very active you would want to take the sensors out of the rubber casing and place them in the skin using medical tape. I was happy to find that his sats remained stable but the alarm went off due to bad contact a couple of times at night. The alarm is really loud and wife, baby and me woke up to find the probe was not in contact. If your baby is sensitive to lights and sound you may want to set up the oximeter in other room as the LED screen is quite bright and the keypad is noisy. Could't find the settings to keep it silent. You need to remember that this is not a hospital grade device and although the oxygen saturation measured by the device was within normal limits, it was 2-3 points bellow the level he had at the hospital with the professional oximeter. If you think your baby is having breathing problems its best to talk to your GP.In summary it is a really good product for your money and the probe problem is shared by many of the more expensive oximeters. I am quite happy with my product as it works quite well in older children who loves all those bright colours.
