Cost effective replacement bases!
As with many others, the weld fails around the middle tube after about a year or so of sitting like an absolute moron. This will be my 3rd one of these bases and they're great, last about 14-15 months on average (which is the same as many other more expensive ones) except they're super cost effective replacements - ideal to fit to the bottom of your ageing gaming chair and give it another year!

Pays for itself in one use...
Was dubious that this would be sufficient as it was a lot cheaper than others on Amazon, but looking at the design when received, its robust, fits to an industry normal base layout, easy to swap, and does the job! Why buy another chair when you can simply repair? A novice DIY can do the change. Happy with this.

Does the job.
My one does not look like the one pictured. It is a standard fit, which is good, so it is easy to put onto a chair. It has a lever for the lift mechanism, but whilst the old one I used had a spring to keep the lever down, this replacement doesn't. It doesn't mean it doesn't work though, simply that the lever 'settles' back, so there is a bit of play before the lever gets to the lift mechanism. And it can rattle a bit when moving in you chair. So, dropped a couple of stars. Is much cheaper than getting a new chair though.

Terrible quality, broken after 6 months.
Worked fine at first, but within 2 months the chair started to lean to the right as the metal plate on the side mushroomed and deformed, and for the last couple of months, the chair has been leaning further and further back, to the point where it feels like it is going to tip over if I put my weight in it. as you can see in the picture, there is a giant crack down the centre plate. Awful build quality, the metal is either too thin, low quality steel, or both. This will not last, only buy it if you're desperate for a cheap fix.

Hartleys replacement baseplate.
Hartleys replacement baseplate. £10.90 including P & P. February 2015 from SDE online. It arrived within three days.I'm very pleased with this item. As a male of 5'8" and only 55 kg, I have two office chairs neither of which would tilt backwards under my weight. I have now fitted the new baseplate and set the tension adjuster to minimum, and can now tilt the chair all the way back (about 30°) with a slight pressure from my foot. The holes lined up with no problem (255mm x 150mm) and the baseplate was easily screwed in.The biggest problem was removing the old baseplate from the cylinder. I managed this by unscrewing the old baseplate from the chair, taking the complete bottom assembly, including the wheels, to the shed and suspending the assembly with the old baseplate resting by one side on the bench and the other side on a 4 x 4 timber (set on end) at about the same height as the bench, so that the wheels dangled about 6 inches above the floor.I then used a piece of steel about 12 mm² and 6 inches long, placed it upright (through the hole in the baseplate) on the end of the old cylinder next to the red button on top of the cylinder, and dropped an 8 pound sledgehammer on the end of the steel three or four times until the cylinder came loose from the baseplate, and crashed to the floor still attached to the wheels. Rather more brute force than science but it seemed to work.I've now got a really good chair, and have decided to order another base plate for the other chair.Easily worth five stars.
