Great Lock, Easy to Install and Use
I have bought about 20 of these door knob locks over the past few years, from the BT-3 2nd Gen to the Latch 5 with built-in WiFi. I love these locks.I used them to replace existing door knobs, but installing them in a new door would have been as easy as installing any other door knob. It came with all the necessary door templates, and it just needs basic tools to install. The instructions were step by step easy. Batteries are included, but they never worked- I just bought a bunch of Amazon Basic regular AA batteries and they worked fine. The app is really easy to use. Adding and deleting people is simple, so I can set who has access to which locks for how long. If someone forgets their code, I can unlock the doors from anywhere with the app, or give them a new code. Most of the time, I’m home when I’m programming the locks, and Bluetooth works well. If using WiFi from remote, it might take a few seconds or a couple of tries for the lock to wake up, but the lag hasn’t been bad. A nice feature is that the app tells you when the batteries are running low- it gives you plenty of reminders before they get so low that the lock won’t work. If you forget, the key works fine. I keep them in a lockbox nearby. The fingerprint sensor can be a little tricky if my finger is dirty, or wet, or too dry, but wiping my finger usually fixes it- it hasn’t been a problem.Using the code always works, but if you go too fast, you might fat finger the keypad and hit a 2 when you think you are pressing a 3, but re-entering the number works. I like that the keypad can flash and the doorknob can make an audible beep to let me know that I unlocked the door. These can also be turned off if annoying. Wait for the beep or flash to turn the knob- if you’re impatient and rush and turn the knob right right after entering the number, it might not be unlocked yet. The lock isn’t broken, it just needs a fraction of a second to unlock. For delivery people, it’s a good idea to leave a note to tap the top black area of the lock for the keypad. To save battery life, the keypad is off, so some delivery people get flustered that they don’t know where to enter their code. These are all minor things from several years of using the locks. I would buy more of these locks if I needed them. I love the convenience and control that I get with these locks. Being able to see who accessed which locks and when can give you peace of mind. The few times that I have had questions or problems, the live person customer support team has been really helpful. The wait time was short, and they had the answers I needed. I had one lock with a defect that couldn’t be fixed. As soon as I emailed them a screenshot of my Amazon order, they quickly shipped me a new one. They really do a good job with customer service. These are great locks and a good company.

EXCELLENT customer service, decent lock, unknown lifespan
The lock itself gets 4 stars. The 5-star review is for excellent customer service. We have multiple latch 5 fingerprint/wifi locks and well as some older gen 3 fingerprint locks. We've been using u-tec products for a few years with very few issues overall. I bought 2 of the latch 5 fingerprint locks. One of them worked for about 3 months and then began consistently disconnecting from wifi. After basic troubleshooting failed to resolve the problem, I contacted U-Tec support. They responded within a couple of hours and asked me if I could get the lock back online, which I did. They were able to push new firmware to the lock which seems to have resolved the disconnection issues. I had a second lock as well (that was not having issues), but they went ahead and pushed the updated firmware to that lock. I can only assume the firmware is in beta because prior to contacting them I had checked for firmware updates and the app was reporting that both locks had the latest firmware. As for the lifespan of the locks, my oldest lock is about 3 years old and is still fully functional. I've seen mixed reviews on the lifespan, but so far, I've not had issues with major unresolvable failures.

Simply don't work as they should (Connectivity issues, Battery Issues, etc...)
I hate to write such a negative review, but I have never had such a bad experience with a product. I have multiple U-Tec products, and they are all equally terrible. I was an early adopter and have tried to support them, growing to 5 deadbolts and one Latch 5 over the years. Unfortunately, they just kept getting worse and could have been better to begin with. The software is constantly spinning, and the locks seldom respond to an unlock or user-add request, maybe one in 5 times. Often I have to reset them and reconnect to make them do anything. Given that the issues are the same on all my devices across multiple properties and disparate Wi-Fi networks, I assume it is just bad software. I'm a network engineer, so it isn't a connectivity issue, not like it takes an engineer to have a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network; I only mention this to elaborate on the fact that I have done my due diligence. At one point, a firmware update caused issues with my latch 5. I opened a support case, and the ULTRALOQ team apparently remoted into the device and rolled back the firmware... I am sure this is something I agreed to via the terms of use but it is still a bit unsettling. That was many months ago. The issues still need to be resolved, and it is a battle whenever I want to do anything with my devices. I am removing the locks and disposing of them rather than selling them as I do not wish this frustration on anyone. I have had excellent luck with the Schlage Encode family of devices and have decided that is the replacement track.Issues:Wi-Fi connectivityBluetooth connectivitySlow Slow SlowBattery life is terrible

Great Customer Service
During a recent firmware update, (lock was 10 months old), I had an issue with the lock updating. I contacted customer service who gave me clear detailed instructions on how to troubleshoot the issue. After troubleshooting, the issue was not resolved. I contacted Customer Service again and they immediately made arrangements to send me a new lock under warranty. My experience with Customer Service was probably the most Seamless/painless interaction that I have ever had with a company. They were always quick to respond and the Resolution was fast and great.
