Klein Tools MM420 Digital Multimeter, Auto-Ranging TRMS Multimeter, 600V AC/DC Voltage, 10A AC/DC Current, 50 MOhms Resistance

I needed a reliable meter to trouble shoot my malfunctioning Samsung refrigerator/freezer.This Klein mm420 features checked all the boxes I needed and more, feels solid and built for serious use.You can look over the specs: 600v, 10amp…. etcbut this CAT III, true root mean square (TRMS) meterexceeds anything (I) a home owner and DIY “electrician” needs.I found a service manual for the Samsung fridge on the weband followed the diagnostic flow chartsmeasuring values from the components directly,off the pc board connectors,and off the main processing board directly.The only meter functions I needed were continuity, dc volts, ohms, and temperature.The meter made selecting the function simpleand the auto range made the readings easy and worry free.I like the back light displayand the readings lock feature allowed me to transfer the values to my notes easily.This method found the problems,I replaced some parts, and the fridge works!To conclude others may contend there are better meters(more accurate, better designed, what ever),but my experience as a novice foundthe Klein mm420 to be an excellent meter at a good price.

As a diesel tech just starting out, it covers everything you’re gonna need great brand for a good price really can’t beat it. I bought some test leads to go with. It would recommend all alligator clips as well.

Measures as accurately as required. Has many features as other similar devices but this device is sturdy and does not feel cheap in hand. It has a good weight not heavy. So far quite reliable. I use it ocassionally without issue. In automotive electrical, computer electronics and home appliance electronics. It performed well across all those areas. Great price.

Overall I like this meter so far, seems to be good quality for the price. My one and only complaint is the single voltage setting on the dial for both AC & DC voltage. It won't auto-detect DC vs AC and it defaults to AC. So every time you need DC, you have to manually select it. Even if you previously had it on DC, switched to a different setting (say Ohms) and switch back to voltage, it resets to AC. Since I use DC 90+% of the time, it is a slight headache with an otherwise good tool.

Needed this particular multimeter for the megger function. Better price than the big box store that would also have to order them (and take longer to ship) . Diagnosed the health of many electric motors and cabling since . Next comparable product from other brands are over $700 for the same capabilities as this Klein

A friend gave me his Klein MM 1000. He is an electrician. It was pretty beat up and have been used for many years in a tough environment. I was really impressed with the capabilities of it. However the switch eventually gave up.I wanted to find something similar and was pleased to find the client MM 420. It can "only" deal with up to 600 V circuits, which is not going to be a problem for me. It measures all the important electrical requirements and also includes temperature with an included thermocouple.I bought this one because the display looked really nice, and it is. They changed the LCD color and it really stands out, especially when backlit.Klein multimeter are "bench tested." I put this in quotes because this particular bench test means that they can handle a 3 foot drop off of a bench.I have been happy with every Klein tool I've ever bought. They offer excellent quality at very competitive prices. You can buy very basic all the way up to professional. The fact that my friend, who has been a career electrician, uses Klein multimeter was certainly a plus to me.Very happy with this purchase.
