Functional, but you should probably consider this an expansion
First, since the only other reviewer on this mentioned missing pieces from a different set as well as deformities, I made sure to check for that, and while I still consider that a concern, my set wasn't missing anything and I didn't notice anything particularly wrong with the pieces I received. The plastic does feel a little cheap, so I can see where a deformity could occur fairly easily.Next, I went about recreating the set up pictured on the box as a test. I found that it was easy to put the pieces in place, like a large, bulky Lego set. Those times when I realized some minor mistakes, however, I found that taking the pieces apart was rather difficult. For the 1x1 mulch/rock tile pieces in particular, I had to pry them off with scissors. This does mean, however, that once completed, I was able to turn the set upside down without a single piece falling off, which could be a benefit in some cases.Further, I was able to (I believe) accurately recreate the image from the box art, so its only partially misleading. I say that, because even though I could recreate it, its obvious that they took the best angle, obscuring the places where there just weren't enough tile pieces to cover the clear plastic base. Of course, I did have other blocks left over, and there weren't instructions to follow, so take from that what you will. In short, you can make the image from the box; but for your TTRPG needs, you probably wouldn't want to as it looks incomplete.Keep in mind that the base plate has 144 squares (12x12), and this set gives you 50 (30 mulch and 20 rock) of the flat tiles pieces. The elevated rock pieces that are the highlight of the set can likely cover those remaining 94 spots, but some of those, too, would look better with tiles to cap them off. So it feels like this set is intended to supplement a core set, not be a standalone one.I've yet to paint the set yet, so can't comment on that. I do fear that the difficulty in separating the pieces will only be increased with a layer of paint. A bit more detailing on the rocks as well as some variations amongst similar pieces would have been nice touch, but perhaps I can accomplish that myself.Overall, I feel the price is a bit high. The set is more or less functional and I'll no doubt find use for it, though the quality and detail falls a bit short for me to rush to buy more. If I buy another one of their sets, it will likely be one with just flat tile pieces. That way, I could actually make the best use of this set.

frustrating set with poor quality control
I was hoping to elevate my d&d game, and these terrain legos seemed like a great item at the right price point. But there have been some major problems with the set: some of the blocks came slightly deformed and making it impossible to connect to the base board. Additionally, there were no corner connecting pieces that would make the terrain look right (see picture). After looking at some other kits, the company does make these corner pieces, but didn't think to include any in the set! Sunk cost make me begrudgingly buy the other kit BUT that kit has a bunch of pieces missing! Super frustrating. There is a lot of potential for this design. I would have liked a variety of base plates and sizes. I would have liked obvious corner pieces to be included, and I would have liked for all my pieces to fit. Didn't live up to the quality that wanted. I'm seriously considering returning all of it.
