Divine Instrument!
I just received my Steel Tongue Drum and I couldn't be more pleased. The sound is beautiful, there are no dead tongues, and it was packaged nicely with no damage. It took two minutes of listening to the tones to be able to create a pleasing melody. Thank you for such a quality product!

Grandson gift, was a hit
This was a gift for our autistic grandson. Soothing tones, well constructed. The storage bag was a bonus and keeps everything together and portable. Only one tone seemed off, it does give instructions on how to tune the drum if needed.

A bit 'tinny' and dead notes
I purchased what looked like the best options of a few of these steel tongue drums, in these general sizes, from a few different brands so that I could compare and find the best one. Here's what I found out:::BeatRise, both the 13" and the 14" drums -have 'tinny' sound to them and both had dead notesBerning&Lin 14" - sounded 'tinny', dead notes, and the weaving around the edges wasn't staying on.SMAUTOP 14" -came the closest to keeping this one. Its sound was a bit better but still had dead notes. I was also impressed with all of the stuff that came with it. It's like they like their customers. ;)Then I watched videos from people who know a bit more about this stuff and were making recommendations. I found out that bigger isn't necessarily better. You get more notes, but the shape and material differs from the smaller ones in a way that seems to make a real difference. I decided to sacrifice some notes and try a couple of 12" drums, from the list of recommendations.I tried::Harmonic Star Steel Tongue Drum 10" - it was really nice! the sound was sweet and if I hadn't tried the next one then I might've been happy with this one. It did have a little bit of a dead note, and was hard to get it to register well on the higher notes in general.and then,Rakumi,12" 'lotus' drum - This was the clear winner. And because it was the very last one I tried, I was sure glad I didn't give up or settle! The price wasn't too bad and totally worth it. It was the only one out of all of them that I tried that had ZERO dead notes. And it had the prettiest, fullest and most resonant tone. It also has a large cutout at the bottom so that you can get in there with magnets and tune it to another key. So basically, it's perfect. I'm honestly in love with it.For anyone comparing the options and wondering, I hope this helps!

Not Tuned as Advertised, all notes are not clear sounding
Of all the tongue drums available within a given price range, I chose this one that was supposedly hand tuned to be spot on before shipping - a huge plus for me, so I ordered. One tongue was 'dead' and my heart sunk; I kept fooling with it, then I held it up closer to my face and saw that there was metal where it was supposed to be cut. I was able to get it out with a razor (tiny piece) - and the note became crystal clear. I had hoped for just some basic explanation of the keyboard, partic. the 3 lowest keys, numbered 5 center, 6 and 7 and sound 'flat' down the middle of the drum, which I'm just guessing give you a different key scale; so when one knows nothing about music, it leaves you sitting there wondering and frustrated. I cannot find any suitable explanation on line either. IMHO, this drum is best suited for improv vs playing standard American tunes. Playing and improvising is easy out of the box for sure and finding chords is simple as well as patterns to use and repeat. On this larger 12" drum there is a rubber stopper on the bottom, not big enough for a hand, but can use to push an implement if need be to retune the tongues if they get pushed downward over time. Several of my tongues were actually too high as you run your hand across the top - (should be smooth), so having difficulty pushing them down forcefully enough to keep the tips of the tongues down. Easy to get clear tones with mallets (not with hands) for the one octave of C, but not the rest of the tongues; easy to play and improvise, finish seems to be tough and durable, the padded bag with shoulder strap and handle and double zipper are fine; this was priced in line with other brands of the same size and number of notes (12", 13 note C Major). Having notes beyond a scale is a plus in my mind. I enjoy having a range from something that sounds low like a gong to a high-pitched light bell sound. I've tried to get answers about why 5,6,7 sound clunky as well as two of the high notes do not sound clear at all but rather clunky-trashy. My feeling is to return it as I cannot get an explanation.

This is a way cool instrument
I am very happy with this purchase. The tongues are arranged [Right - 1,3,5,7,2(9)] - [L - 2,4,6,1,3(10)] You get the under 5,6,7 on the vertical axis, with that fat 5 in the center. In C major, you can come up from the 5 under the root to the 3 over the octave. Beginning with any [Right/Left] tongue, you can play the next two tongues to form a diatonically harmonized triad. This flipped the 'easy to learn' switch.I like the numbers on the tongues, I wish they were permanent, as I wacked one of them off. The tone is good, but I have little experience with other instruments. I think it's a great sounding instrument and would be useful in teaching music. It has spawned a strong curiosity for this instrument.

Perfect size and sound!
I purchased a 6-inch (8 note) tongue drum and this green 12-inch (13 note) tongue drum and I like the 12-inch drum the best. It has the best sound, the notes are all in tune, and it is easier to play. This 12-inch, 13-note tongue drum plays these notes in a C major diatonic scale: G3, A3, B3, C4 (middle C), D4, E4, F5, G5, A5, B5, C5, D5, E5. The top 2 and bottom 2 notes are a little muddy when played, but still sound in tune. It is easy to play familiar melodies, even without any sharps or flats. There are numerous songs written in the key of C major.

Wonder sound, love playing the drum!
The drum is made very well, we love the sound of it. I also love the band that goes around the outside it looks handmade and give the drum a earthy look. I would recommend if your looking for a new instrument to play, you should try this drum.
