The product I'm looking at is 7/8 rope. Should be for around the door. Why are people talking about using under glass?
The length says 7/8" by 7. Is that 7/8 by 7 ft?
Is this a firm or soft gasket

Easy to install, but work in 12 inch sections

Let me first say, I never give 5-star reviews unless I am ecstatic about the product. Here is the best way to make this work. It worked for me.1) Make sure the surface is clear of any old glue or gasket. I used a very heavy wire brush to remove the old gasket and glue.2) Then grind down to the surface with a Dremel or rotary tool with a stone disc. If that's not available use some 80-grit sandpaper and work in layers.3) Vacuum up any old dust or debris/metal shavings.4) The metal should be roughed up but not shiny in any way.5) Use a damp microfiber cloth and wipe the channel where the new gasket will go.6) Put on disposable gloves (plastic or rubber). Have a few extra pairs ready too.7) Open the package of the gasket and dry fit the rope around the channel. This helps you get the positioning down right. Leave an extra 3 inches or so for error.8) Knead the tube of cement very well and then cut a fairly large bead opening in the end.9) Work in sections of about 12" and pick up the portion you wish to tack down next (you should have left the gasket in the dry fit position). Put down a generous bead of the cement in the channel and wipe the side of the gasket with the same cement too and work it into the fibers. Then lightly smooth the bead in the channel. This cement is very loose and not tacky so it's easy to do.10) Slowly work the rope into the channel without too much pressure but make sure it is a bit snug.11) Work your way around the door completely and then finish up on the end. I had the start and finish just where the latch is to close the door. Seemed like a decent location to pick.12) Clean any spillover that may have gotten onto the rest of the door with a damp cloth.13) Remove and replace your gloves with new ones.14) Pick up the door and put it on the hinges of the stove and close the door for about 10 minutes.15) Open the door and let sit for 1 hour to dry a bit.16) Close the door and leave shut for 24 hours. You're done. It's a fairly easy thing to do with the right tools and took me about an hour. Have fun and post a comment on your experience.

Good quality

I needed at least 6’ so having the extra foot provided peace of mind. The tube of cement is smaller than I expected but was more than enough for the job. I prefer the look of grey gasket over the original white. My application was an older “Country” stove, the model is “Magnum.” Lennox took over Country many years ago but stove hasn’t been manufactured in at least 20 years. The gasket I was replacing was old and starting to fall out of the channel. I tried to cement it a couple times but it didn’t hold. The new gasket looks great and I’m sure will provide good service. I did invest a lot of prep time scraping and wire brushing the gasket channel to remove the old cement until I was back to the metal. I recommend this product and may try to add an update as time goes by.

Great product

I used this to replace the gasket on my Lopi Pioneer Pellet stove. I watched a video on how to install it and it works perfectly.

This product installed easily, correctly, and has worked very well though about 5 separate uses/fires to date.

Best On The Market

I had to change the gasket on my pellet stove and initially purchased one of the other big name gaskets. It seemed pretty stiff to me but I went ahead and installed anyway as we were getting some colder nights. It was a job getting it installed and was hard to work with. I followed their directions and just couldn't get it to lay the way I wanted. Upon firing up the stove I could see flame Through a few places where the gasket didn't make good contact. I got back on Amazon and ordered the Rutland gasket. After getting the old cement scraped off (which was quite a chore because it was new) the Rutland gasket was a breeze to install. It was flexible and was easy to make the bends on the corners. After letting the cement cure I fired up the stove and I now have an airtight seal. I won't be changing brands again. Lesson learned.

Wood boilers

This item should be replaced every heating season.

Finding the right size and thickness.

The adhesion glue that came with the gasket was not enough to apply the full gasket to the wood insert glass door . I had to buy a second tube. It took longer than anticipated to glue down and clamp a single side before moving onto and clamping the next side. The cost was less that our local hardware stores.

Exactly as ordered

We used it for a seal around our fireplace insert door. Fit perfectly and works well.
