Work well with backpack configuration. Increased reception by several miles. A shorter antenna would work just as well.

This antenna looks like it is all business. Reminds me of my days in the military with the PRC-77 radio on my back. Yeah, that was a long time back. I tried this antenna along with the regular antenna that came with the radio and found that this antenna had longer range I was able to activate a repeater that was over 45 miles away on 8 watts. The shorter antenna would not break squelch on that repeater. Very sturdy construction.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars is only because I had to trim about 4mm of the plastic off the bottom of the antenna around the sma connector. It wouldn't even thread down low enough to engage the center conductor. Afterwards....I have to admit it's quite large in comparison to my little Baofeng. However, it allowed me to hit 5 repeaters I could only hit with my 25 watt mobile radio. I was also pleased with the results of my test on it with my VNA. LOW SWR all across the usable bands (even FRS and GMRS). Quite pleased but I think I'll order the 18" version now.

Have only used it for receiving (using my radio as a "scanner") so far.It is pulling in stations that the factory whip can't even catch carrier on.It is of course, "unwieldy", but any 4 foot antenna is.Performance may vary depending on where you fold it - if you do.I don't know enough to be sure of that, but know that overall length needs to "match" wavelength.How that applies to a foldy antenna is beyond my current skills.This may explain others that say it doesn't work.Maybe also, they have a connection issue - the rubber boot may need trimming for some radios.If the connector is not fully seated, no antenna will work.

This sounds like a good idea and I was excited when I seen it but when I bought it and tried it it was garbage my stock antenna worked better than this thing Do Not Buy!!!!! Do Not Buy!!!!! Great antenna for my radio's. The 6" stick one that cane with the radio lost signal and wouldn't get 6 feet away. Put these antennas on my radio and i could get almost 2 miles. Haven't had this good of signal ina long time. I almost threw my radio's away. But decided to give them one more chance with your antenna. I purchased this for my baeofeng radios to gain reception. Very pleased, I like the fold-up design as it was what we used in the army for short range radios. It allows you to minimize your tactical load. It has worked for my needs and improved reception of my radios and extended the range by nearly two miles! Well worth the cost and a great improvement to the stock antenna.
