stylish and cleanly laid out book with beautiful photos and a HUGE TYPO
Nice book with slipcase. Photos are wonderful pairings that attempt to show the continuum between Dior's New Look some 70 years ago, with today's line of clothing from the Haute Couture house of Dior. There is a big typo on one of the pages. It is under a photo by Clifford Coffin. It all started from a shoot for a Vogue magazine cover involving three models. Nancy Berg, Candy Tannev, and Elsa Martinelli. There are other shots from that session. On the internet the model in this photo is oftentimes incorrectly credited to be Nancy Berg. I made that same mistake myself for years and was mystified when looking at Nancy Berg's tv show "Count Sheep" and the movie Fail Safe (1964). The woman in those films look nothing at all like the model in this photo. I only found out last year that she is Elsa Martinelli.Simple mistake for the casual internet surfer, but a big error on the part of the editor of an otherwise excellent book.

Spectacular!!!!!!
"Dior", New Looks", by Jerome Gautier, an expert on fashion photography and the history of fashion, is jaw-dropping spectacular.Published by HarperCollins...this lovely substantial coffee table book is 13"x9 3/4" x1 1/4". 303 pages long...the book weighs 5 pounds. It's exterior color is a soft gray color...a Hard copy which comes with a cloth-cardboard-covered-slip cover. The elegance is impressive before even opening the book.Once inside...it only takes seconds to begin to comprehend the reputationof Christian Dior as one of the most important couturiers of the twentieth century. For the past week, I kept turning pages looking at the the full page colorful photos.Fifty eight of the world's finest fashion photographers contributed classic andcontemporary photographs.Jerome Gautier put together the most beautiful creations from Dior's designs, since his launch in 1947.When not viewing the photos ....(breathtaking...striking...and magnificent),Jerome makes reading about Christian Dior fascinating.Dior was raised in Normandy, France then moved to Paris when he was 10 years old.He studied political science, and served in the military. His design career started in 1935. He began by selling sketches. We learn the history of Dior's early years of working with other designers...( getting his start).Dior revolutionized woman's fashion with "New Look". He gave women their femininitystarting in 1947. He was an instant success. His designs featured rounded shoulders,a cinched waist, and very full skirts. Christian Dior only lasted a decade, ( he died at age 52 in the year 1957), ...but he contributed twenty-two collections, twenty-four lines and a rapid succession of 'New Looks'. Nobody had achieved the level of success in this short of time.Very impressive book--absolutely stunning photos. Engaging reading from author Jerome Gautier. My awareness and appreciation for - both Christian Dior and Jerome Gautier has skyrocketed. I'm a little sad now, though, too. It's a problem with learning more about a great genius who have died. Dior's thriving business lives on...( clothes, stockings, perfumes, etc.)....and Dior's influence will be felt for many years, but I'm sad this extraordinary gifted man didn't get to live longer.I honestly had not looked at woman's fashion - ( the designers and photographers ), in the same light - I have other artists, musicians and authors. Only because I was naïve and unaware.I played the game...."If I HAD to pick one dress that I got to have fitted to my body... ( free of charge of course).....which one would I choose... and LOVE TO WEAR? It was a simple dress on page 288. It's my style. I loved the boots with it. The photographer was Benjamin Alexander Huseby.Christina Dior was a romantic... some of his ball gowns were not only exquisite....and chic...but very playful....'swirling princess type dresses'Tons of fun visiting this world. I feel a little more beautiful from having read it!!!Many thanks to Will, his wife...and HarperCollins for the most beautiful book I've ever received as a gift. I'm overwhelmed.... THANK YOU!!!!With Mother's Day coming up... consider this book as a gift! Page after page after page - the artwork -in woman's fashion is sooooooo AMAZING!!!!elyse-jody

Dior: New Looks presents a new take on Dior!
Three reasons why this book should be on everyone's must have list. Its a wonderful new look at the New Look—that’s what makes this so interesting—looking at signature pieces and how they’ve been reinterpreted over the years. Additionally, there are lots of never-published photos in here. Lastly, the book's text is readable and thorough, NOT stuffy and academic. I loved it!

The cloth slipcase this came in was a cool surprise--high quality product!
I bought this as a present for my mom--and when it showed up I was pleasantly surprised because the book comes in a really nice gray cloth case. It's very elegant. The print quality is really good too. Definitely recommend.

A keepsake
This really gives you a solid picture of what Dior is all about. Love the gray cloth case the book come in, and the nice thick paper. Plus it’s a good coffeetable book size—big enough to really show the clothes and comfortable enough for reading, but not one of those ridiculously huge fashion tomes that’s too hard to handle or too big to put in a shelf.

Fresh pictures, cool models
The way this book highlights signature Dior elements and silhouettes over the course of the brand’s history is well done—and the images are definitely NOT the same old. There are images in here that have never been published. And it has great examples of Galliano and Raf Simons’s work, too.
