The late Og Mandino was one of the most prolific writers of self-help books, presented in the form of fables. Most people aren't aware that earlier in his life, he had reached such a low point that he contemplated committing suicide. He was just moments from purchasing a gun and ending it all. Somehow, he resolved to turn his troubled life around and once he was successful at doing so, he began to write a long series of books designed to help others.The Twelfth Angel is typical Og Mandino. It's basically the story of a successful businessman who loses his wife and son in an auto accident. He has little to live for and contemplates suicide. That's when the twelfth angel shows up. The twelfth angel is a young boy who is the worst player on the little league team that the businessman is recruited to coach. Through the actions of the little boy, the businessman is able to find new meaning in life, despite his devastating loss.This is a book that defines triumph over tragedy and is among Og Mandino's best. If you're feeling down, or just want to read a book that's uplifting in the end, this one would make a great choice. Be sure to have a box of tissues near by when you read it.

One of the best elements of a Mandino book is that the story line can be seen on many levels - straight entertainment in fiction, a business aspect, a spiritual aspect and a transcendent aspect. The Twelfth Angel was not what I expected. A tear jerker, and an entertaining read, it reminds the reader that each life is precious, that time is precious, and that our ability to touch and impact others may not be known on the surface, but may be stronger and deeper than ever imagined.The story is one of a young boy, a young widower, and the ability of the dying to give life to the living. The story line is pretty predictable, and the cliches are evident throughout the baseball scenes. However, the story will touch you...inspire you,,,and remind you that every life is a miracle.

The author held my attention with this well-written story. It's uplifting to learn how a person can go on living after so much tragedy. I enjoyed learning about the game of baseball, that was a bonus.

Great story!!! Had it all, interesting story and a very positive message. Og told it in a way that had me cheering and yelling for little Timothy the way I did when my children were in little league baseball. it's the kind of story of story that makes the reader want to be a better person. Once again Og hit it out of the park!!! Try it you'll like it!!!
