An excellent upgrade.
If you have an older Acurite Iris weather station, this is a really good upgrade. Our older model was still working, but it was making noise, and was significantly sun-damaged -- not a surprise at all, it's been out in the high UV desert sun for years. The new part was very easy to install. I'd suggest that the instructions remind you to change the unit batteries while you've got it down, and are taking it apart. I wish I had.

Review for using it as replacement part for warn out anemometer
The anemometer on my 5-1 weather station was making noise and/or not turning. I was debating if I should purchase a new unit or this upgrade. I'm happy to report that it works well to replace an older unit, though there are a few things you should know. Every screw hole was filled with mud, making screw removal rather difficult. Even so the fix only took about 60 minutes including the time on the roof. While I don't think the extra solar panel is all that useful in my situation, I think having an oil screw (which the upgrade has and the standard does not) is a great feature. Two other things to consider. The 5-1 weather station often has failure of the hygrometer sensor, so you may change this part and have something else fail. Second issue : the entire unit plastic looked discolored and old (after about 5 years). So you may wish to consider buying a new unit, but for me I'm happy with the upgrade as repair.

Wow - that was easy to replace
I have had the AcuRite weather station since 2013. It has weathered two hurricanes and has worked well for many years. However, the wind speed meter (anemometer) was showing its age. I contemplated replacing the entire unit until I discovered that I could replace just the anemometer sensor. This replacement part includes both the wind cups as well as a solar panel that powers a small internal fan. I believe the small internal fan contributes to the ambient temperature accuracy. After receiving the part, I followed the directions, and the replacement was fairly quick. I am hopeful that I can get another 11 years of use out of the unit. If not, I will certainly replace it with another AcuRite.

Works fine on one of my older outdoor sensors
Works great, helps with the early morning and late evening sun with the dual solar panels. Wow has the price gone up from $36 to $54 but you can still get it from the manufacturer for $36. You might as well buy a whole new outdoor sensor and replace the whole thing. I have three 5 in 1 aka: Iris Acurite weather stations running, one for over 10 years with a little TLC.Update 06/21/24 they have raised the price yet again to $103 on here and it's still $36 direct from Acurite, what in the world is the deal with this?

Oil
Why not build with friction free bearings? Instruction on weather station state to mount at least 12ft high. Instructions on the wind sensor state if needed remove a screw on it and oil the hole where screw goes, turn upside down and then upright if speed not correct. I bought the battery pack extension because I didn't want to have to climb 12ft yearly to change batteries (and I highly recommend it) and I don't want to climb 12ft to oil the wind speed sensor.
