Christopher Menaul directs this wartime drama produced by Bill Kenwright. Based on the true story of Louisa Gould, portrayed by Jenny Seagrove, the film follows the story of the inspirational woman who took an escaped Russian prisoner of war into her home on the Nazi-occupied island of Jersey. As it becomes apparent that the British Prime Minister has no intention of risking the rest of the UK coming under attack just to save the small island, Louisa and her fellow islanders realise they must join together in harmony if they are ever going to stand a chance of winning the war. The cast also includes John Hannah, Susan Hampshire and Ronan Keating.

The story one woman's struggle to find peace in the death of her son
This was such a touching movie I was on the edge of my seat through the entire thing and the fact that it was based on a true story was even better we cried we laughed we wanted to save the characters that we we're losing it almost made you want to step back in time and be part of the scenes they could not have done this story better

Engaging
But to harbor a Russian POW out in the open where the entire island could see was the death of this foolish woman.

We need to stop believing that one bit of humanity is more valuable or less valuable than others
This is a well acted, based on true story, movie. It's sad that human beings so often put their selfishness and comfort above the right of others to live. From the uterus, which should be the safest place for a baby to be, to diverse nationalities, to the aged, or disabled, there will always be those who think their lives are more important or more valuable than these. In todays world add too thin, too fat, and not pretty enough. All of the above are things some people have no choice over. Who are you judging to be less valuable in life than are you?

NO SUBTITLES AVAILABLE!
Had to turn this off after 15 minutes due to no subtitles. The accents were too hard to understand. It's a shame as it looked like a good movie.

Here today/Gone tomorrow
What I saw of this was fine and made me want to watch the rest. I began watching it it on Sunday evening and had about an hour to go to finish it on Monday. Much to my surprise, I'm now informed the title is now currently not available. Just another in any number of disappointments with Amazon Prime video.

Worthwhile, Beautifully-Made Holocaust-related Film
This is a very well-done film with a heartwarming story that takes place in a little-known English territory that was taken over by the Nazis during WW II.The story is very moving and inspiring on many levels, and it is well-acted.I highly recommend this film, even though the story it tells is disturbing and sad in many ways, as is the case with any Holocaust-themed film.

no subitles
Excellent film with geat acting. However why were there no subtitles when foreign languages were spoken? Also no "hard of hearing" subtitles in general. Difficult for those of us that have hearing problems. I know it is probably expensive to add subtitles, but I would rather pay a bit more for a DVD and be able to understand all that is said

Reading the 1 star and 2 star reviews, (bearing in mind we are all entitle to our own options), I do feel they must have been watching another film I thought the film was very good as was the cast. I have lived in Jersey for some 30 odd years and although some of the scenery was questionable on the whole I feel that it portrayed Jersey very well, even down to the local sayings such as "alright my luv". To mark a film down because it did not have sub-titles is somewhat harsh. The film showed all sides be they the German occupiers, collaborators and in the case of Louisa Gould the bravery and risks Jersey people went too. How true the film reflects actual events one cannot say, but at the end it did get one thinking how luck we are now

Excellent Film
Like so many other reviewers I loved this film. It was brilliant and even more heart wrenching knowing it was a true story. I find it really hard to think of any part of the British Isles being occupied by the Nazis, I find it even harder to comprehend that more wasn't done to protect our fellow Brits on Jersey at the time of WWII. A lovely but very sad story of such bravery. Well worth watching if you haven't already.

Interesting and poignant movie which portrayed a horrible period of Nazi occupation for the people of Jersey ...
Interesting and poignant movie which portrayed a horrible period of Nazi occupation for the people of Jersey which also affected all the other Channel Island residents. The story tells of the brutal, vicious, ferocious and inhumane treatment meted out by the Germans towards the Russian prisoners of war during the Nazi occupation during WW2.The kindness of local residents somehow shines through, but some of them paid the ultimate sacrifice in the end.Just wanted to say if you get the chance to visit Jersey go to the WW2 German underground hospital and see for yourself how these poor people suffered in appalling conditions at the hands of the Nazi, I have been there and I was shocked to say the least. This film gives a sad insight into what people were capable of, it was well portrayed by all of the cast.

Why is this not a bigger title?
I was working in Bath delivering goods when I accidentally disturbed filming. Concentrating on not dropping anything I didn't see the big yellow signs on the posts for silence please due to film making. Walked around a corner to be met with massive Nazi flags draped over a building front and interrupted filming with a squeaky sack truck. Ooops! If I'd not been there and seen a scene being filmed, I'd not have known about this film - I managed to get the title from a nearby shop and kept looking out for it and I now own it. When I sat and watched it, I was gripped all the way through. Telling the true story of an escaped POW who was taken in by a local family and the effect it had on the community.Very good acting, very good cinematography, I loved every minute especially the end.
