Four Stars
Sent it to my 22 month old greatgrandson and am anxious to hear how he responds to it.

Don’t recommend
We have a baby on the way and bought several books to read to our toddler about the new baby coming. I don’t love this book, unfortunately. There’s no story and does not really teach anything. I’d keep looking and skip this one.

Exceptional book to share with young one
Gorgeous artwork with sweet and humourous moments depicted. Writing has realistic thoughts from a young child. My three year old son loves this book so much that we read it at least twice before bedtime every day and I'm happy to do it. It makes me weepy at the end at how excited the little boy is after going through a little bit of fear and even some jealousy. The book doesn't indicate whether the baby will be a boy or a girl, and the little boy in the story wonders if he will meet a brother or a sister. I would give this book more than five stars if I could.

Ideal if you are expecting again. Wonderful introduction of baby to your kiddos.
A lovely book for kiddos whose family is about to expand. The store is sweet and simple: a mother tells her son that they are going to have a baby. As they spend their days in various spots across town (park, beach, museum), they talk about the things that the baby may be or do. At the end, the little boy and his grandfather are headed to the hospital with flowers for mom and presents for the baby. A gentle introduction to becoming a big brother!

A little weird and creepy
This book has an adult baby type thing going on. It reminds me of family guy. My boss recommended it but I thought it was really weird. That being said, my toddler seems to like it.

Good for people who are waiting to find out the sex
This is an older book but it’s cute and I ordered it because a reviewer said it assumes you don’t know the sex of the baby. My best friend is due in January and I got her 2 year old this for Christmas because they don’t know the sex.

Not helpful at all.
I got this book because I'm expecting my third and I wanted something to help my 3-year-old going to be middle child to understand that there's a baby in the way. At first I thought this book was great because it even said that the baby would come when it's ready, in the fall when the leaves are changing and that's exactly when I'm due. But then it just went downhill from there. The character asked what the baby would do and instead of giving realistic answers it goes through different professions the baby might do when it grows up and the child answering I wouldn't want to eat food made by a baby or maybe the baby could work at the zoo and get eaten by a tiger...Maybe someone with an older child would find this amusing but it's not really what I was looking for.

Very charming book, with delightfully art deco artwork. ...
Very charming book, with delightfully art deco artwork. A little bit awkward to read in the modern era when the gender of the baby is known so early, but I just read "the baby" as "your sister" when I read it to my son, and skip over the parts where we wonder if it's going to be a boy or a girl.

Beautiful, moving, inspiring - Poetry
This book is my absolute favourite to read in the wait for the latest addition to the family- a poem that celebrates the emotional rollercoaster that a new baby brings to a family, the uncertainty and excitement of anticipation. The drawings of the mother and toddler (who grows into a young boy by the end of the book) are beautiful- full of warmth and such touching whimsical details. The cartoons of the imaginary future baby made my children (age 6 and 4) laugh their socks off- and sparked lots of good discussion, and allowed us to deal with the apprehension, and resentment about (my) tiredness and pressures on their time with me. The ending - with the question mark about the new adventure about to start makes me cry everytime - it leads to the answer that only our own baby can provide.I am not very prompt at doing reviews- but I felt compelled to review this in light of the negative comments. My feeling is that those who did not enjoy it were looking to the book for something it is not - a reference/ self help for toddlers. For them I would recommend "I am going to be a BIG sister/ brother" which are great matter of fact descriptions of life with a new baby ( I can feed the baby/ babies cry to tell us what they need/ Mummy loves me and I love baby etc etc).. but for older children, good readers ( Roald Dahl and more) we needed more than the practicalities - aand this book tickled our imagination. Though it is formatted as picture book- I would really class it as poetry. In words and pictures. Beautiful, moving, inspiringps- This particular format -a smaller size (A5?) hardcover is lovely to hold and would keep better than my original big size (A4?) with dust jacket from Waterstones. However it is an American edition- and for some, this will be a no-go... with "Mommy" spellings and US phrasings- it really should be highlighted on the website. In the UK we expect books for British language users! Not that it detracts from the magic of the illustrations or the poetry overall

Rubbish explanation
What children need are simple pictures explaining a baby growing in mummy's tummy. No book on Amazon, including this one helps. Often the text is far too advanced and if your child can understand that, then you don't need a book. Also, none of the pictures is good enough - you need a clear picture with a mummy and a window in her tummy. I'm better of with stick woman pictures with a baby to explain. Don't waste your money.

Confusing message
I bought this to prepare my son for his new baby brother. The whole book discusses what the baby might be - an artist, a banker etc with accompanying pictures and I thought it would be far too confusing for a 2.5 year old! The illustrations are lovely though

A lovely book
This is an excellent, touching and thoughtful book that shows a young child coming to terms with a new baby in the family. It helps start a discussion between parents and child. Lovely illustrations too.A good teaching aid when thinking of a young child's emotional development.
